IPL 2024 Playoffs Scenarios:How DC's Success Against LSG Affects SRH, CSK, and RCB

IPL 2024 Playoffs Scenario and Updated Points Table: The victory over the Lucknow SuperGiants by the Delhi Capitals keeps them in the running for the playoffs.

IPL 2024 Playoffs Prospects & Revised Points Chart: The competition for the Indian Premier League's (IPL) 2024 playoffs is getting more intense every day. Following the Delhi Caps' victory over the Lucknow SuperGiants on Tuesday, there are still five teams competing for two IPL 2024 play-off positions. The official standings as of right now are Rajasthan Royals (16 points from 12 games) in second place and Kolkata Knight Riders (19 points in 13 matches). RR has not yet secured a spot in the top two. The competition for the final two spots, however, is fiercest between the remaining five teams. Chennai Super Kings, SunRisers Hyderabad, Bengaluru Royal Challengers, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow SuperGiants are the teams in question.

The victory of the Delhi Capitals over the Lucknow SuperGiants is good news for SRH, CSK, and RCB. LSG might have scored 16 points and complicated matters for the three teams if they had defeated DC. However, they can now score up to 14 points. Now that their run-rates are so low, LSG and DC have very little chance of moving forward.

Chennai Super Kings: 14 points (NRR +0.528) after 13 games

One match (against RCB) is left.

The Chennai Super Kings, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, stand a decent chance. After 13 games, they have 14 points (NRR +0.528). They will be eliminated if they defeat RCB. The reigning champions will still be in the league even if they lose to RCB in the last match. After that, they hoped that RCB would not outscore them on NRR. Due to a far higher NRR, CSK will still be the favorites to advance even if LSG wins their final game and reaches 14. In order for them to have it easy, they would also like SRH (14 from 12 games) to lose both of their games.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 14 points (NRR +0.406) from 12 games

Two matches (against GT and PBKS) are left.

If SRH wins its next two games, they will secure a playoff place. They will still advance even if they lose one of their matches. It will all come down to net run-rate if they lose both of their games. The Pat Cummins-led team will need to rely on the NRR to finish in the top 4 if SRH loses both of its remaining games while LSG and RCB win their most recent games. If SRH loses both of their games and CSK defeats RCB, they will need to maintain a higher run average than LSG and DC in order to secure their playoff play-off berths.

Bengaluru's Royal Challengers: 12 points from 13 games (NRR +0.387)

One match (against CSK) is left.

With a winning streak of 5 games, RCB has significantly improved. After winning just one of their first seven games, they have completely changed as a team. RCB needs to defeat Chennai Super Kings in order to get 14 points and advance. Then, they would be hoping that their NRR is higher than the other teams competing for the fourth playoff position. Additionally, they would hope that either LSG loses their final game by a narrow margin or SRH loses both of their remaining games.

Delhi Capitals: NRR -0.377; 14 points from 14 games

No matches left to play.

The future of the Delhi Capitals is not up to them. They'll have to rely on how other games turn out. In order for DC to make the playoffs, they would need to see three of the four teams—SRH, CSK, RCB, and LSG—lose by significant margins and surrender points in their most recent games. Teams with 14 points in that case will need to continue according to NRR.

12 points from 13 games for the Lucknow SuperGiants (NRR -0.787)

One match (against MI) is left.

The run-rate of the Super Giants is plain abhorrent. It dropped to -0.769 following their 10-wicket loss against SunRisers Hyderabad. Following their defeat at DC, it dropped to -0.787. Out of the four teams competing for the fourth space, they have the lowest run rate.

They are virtually eliminated from the playoff race. They would have to win their previous game by a significant margin first. Additionally, they would like for two of CSK, SRH, and RCB to lose their games by disproportionate scores.
